IPOH, 16 June 2026 – HRH Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah officiated the opening of the Sultan Nazrin Shah PERKESO Rehabilitation Centre in Bandar Meru Raya here today.

 

Also in attendance were HH Raja Muda Perak, Raja Jaafar Muda Musa; HH Raja DiHilir Perak, Raja Iskandar Dzurkarnain Sultan Idris Shah and HH Raja Kecil Sulong Perak, Raja Dato’ Seri Ahmad Nazim Azlan Shah Raja Ashman Shah.

 

In his address, Sultan Nazrin said that the centre is not only equipped with modern facilities and technology, but also empowered by experts in various fields, including medicine, physiotherapy, occupational and vocational therapy, social guidance and psychological support to provide integrated rehabilitation services.

 

“This centre is not just a healthcare facility, but symbolises a migration of thought and approach, realising the nation’s vision and aspiration to modernise rehabilitation services to a more advanced and tech-level, reinforced by services that prioritise the values of humanity and compassion.

 

“This centre should be seen as a symbol that the nation values every life, every worker and every family; a symbol that misfortune is not the final chapter of life; a symbol that with the right system, a caring society and opportunities provided, a person need not have to live on the charity of others, but can rebuild a dignified future,” said the Sultan.

 

In line with the remarks, Dato' Sri Ramanan Ramakrishnan in his speech also emphasised the role of the rehabilitation centre as a new catalyst for the development of national rehabilitation services.

 

He said that the largest rehabilitation centre in Southeast Asia began development on 2 May 2022 on a 38.47-acre site and was fully completed in almost four years.

 

He added that the facility has become a new landmark in the nation’s rehabilitation medicine sector by combining elements of Perak’s cultural heritage, i.e., Tekat Timbul Benang Emas with futuristic high-tech architecture. It is also equipped with various key facilities, including accommodation, a Traditional and Complementary Medicine Centre (TCMC) and a Motorcycle Safety Training Track (MSTT).

 

Also present were Perak Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Saarani Mohamad, Orang Kaya Bendahara Seri Maharaja General (Rtd) Dato’ Seri DiRaja Tan Sri (Dr.) Mohd. Zahidi Zainuddin, State Assembly Speaker Dato’ Seri Mohammad Zahir Abdul Khalid, State Secretary Dato’ Ahmad Suaidi Abdul Rahim, State Legal Adviser Dato’ Azmir Shah Zainal Abidin, Perak Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPk) President Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Mohd Annuar Zaini, State Exco Members, Perak State Chieftains, Deputy Perak Mufti Dato’ Zamri Hashim, PERKESO Chairman Dato’ Sri Subahan Kamal and heads of state and federal departments.
