IPOH, 21 October 2020 - Perak became the first state to launch the Warong Rider online delivery service that was introduced by a Perakian.

According to State Youth, Sports and Communications and Multimedia Committee Chairman Khairul Sharil, this initiative was launched to help Small and Medium Enterprise (SMEs) entrepreneurs as well as generate employment opportunities for youths.

"This initiative is expected to create 1,200 jobs for Perak residents, especially the poor, the unemployed and the B40 group.

"However, a total of 480 delivery riders will be appointed in the initial stage from all 24 Parliamentary constituencies in Perak," he told a press conference at the pre-launch officiated by Perak Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu.

Also present were Malaysian Federation of Malay Hawkers and Petty Traders Association (GPPPKMM) President Dato’ Ramli Noraini, Perak Malay Hawkers and Petty Traders Association President Asmadi Teh, Digital Perak CEO Meor Rezal Fitri Meor Redwan and Warong Rider CEO Mohd Nadzri Kamarulzaman.

Khairul Shahril said Warong Rider offers food, documents and parcels, medicines, kitchen items delivery services as well as provides assistance as personal shoppers to help Perak SME entrepreneurs affected by the spread of COVID-19.

"Warong Rider can help not only SME entrepreneurs to market their products, but also residents living in urban and rural areas," he said.

Apart from a fixed allowance of RM1,200 per month, Warong Rider despatchers would also receive a startup kit worth RM250 and delivery commission through a CONNECTIME Grant from SME Corporation Malaysia and the State Youth, Sports, Communications and Multimedia Committee Chairman’s office.
