Women And Community Development Secretariat A Proactive Step By State Government: 8 March 2021

IPOH, 8 March 2020 – Perak Menteri Besar Dato' Saarani Mohamad today announced the State Government’s proactive step in establishing the Women and Community Development Secretariat (SPW).

SPW was established as a specialised institution to coordinate policies and implement initiatives related to women's development, community welfare and social wellbeing in an integrated manner at the state level.

The announcement was made via the Menteri Besar’s message in conjunction with the Perak State Level International Women's Day 2021.

He also stressed on the government's aspiration to optimise women's workforce in important government sectors.

“Women are the pillars and important assets to the country, especially Perak.

"Perak's female population is 49.4% of the total population. The government aims to reach 30% women at the decision-making level and achieve 55% Labour Force Participation Rate (LFPR),” he said.

Also present were State Secretary Dato' Ahmad Suaidi Abdul Rahim, State Legal Adviser Azmir Shah Zainal Abidin and State Women and Family Development, Welfare, Community Wellbeing and NGO Committee Chairman Dato’ Dr Wan Norashikin Wan Noordin.

The Perak State Level International Women's Day celebration was brightened up with the presenting of roses to the officers and female staff at the Perak State Secretariat Building.
