IPOH, 28 December 2021 - Perak recorded the highest collection in the country by collecting 256 metric tonnes of electrical and electronic waste (e-waste) this year.

State Health, Science, Environment and Green Technology Committee Chairman Mohd Akmal Kamarudin said the number showed a sharp increase compared to 44 metric tonnes recorded last year.

“Last year, Perak was third because there was no coordination involving all local authorities.

"This success was the result of aggressive efforts carried out with the involvement of various parties, such as non-governmental organisations, local authorities, private sectors and state government subsidiaries," he said.

He said this after officiating the Perak State Level National Environment Day (HASN) 2021 Closing Ceremony at the Excelsior Hotel Hall here.

Also present was Perak Environment Department Director Rosli Zul.

Mohd Akmal added that the strategic cooperation with the industry players would continue via HASN 2022 with the Ipoh City Council as host for the state level.

“The HASN programme is very beneficial and will be continued as there is improvement from factories where they have started upgrading their technology one by one.

"Besides that, the programme also includes an awareness campaign at the school level which aims to educate students on the importance of loving the environment," he said.

Meanwhile, HASN 2021 has successfully closed the curtain with a total of 403 entries via programmes organised throughout the year.

Among the competitions organised during the 2021 programme were the Online Environmental Quiz Competition, Youth Environmental Icon Award, E-Waste Competition, Environmental Poetry and Poem Writing Competition, Environmental Photography Competition and so forth.
