PROKiS aid boxes containing disposable sanitary pads, reusable sanitary pads, period management pamphlets, mini sanitary pads and feminine hygiene products.

IPOH, 26 February 2022 - The Perak State Government has launched the Basic Sanitary Kit (PROKiS) Programme to address the period poverty problem in the state.

State Women, Family and Community Welfare Development Committee Chairman Dato' Dr. Wan Norashikin Wan Noordin said the programme being conducted in 12 districts throughout the state would benefit about 2,000 recipients.

“Among the causes of this problem are the lack or absence of sanitary facilities to manage menstruation, lack of infrastructure such as access to clean and adequate water, lack of menstrual management education and lack of privacy in managing menstruation.

“Period poverty is also the cause of students skipping school, especially in rural areas.

"Hence, the state government will place sanitary napkin vending machines in strategic public places. It can indirectly help women during an emergency.

"We will also provide educational exposure to students on self-management methods on menstruation and diseases that will occur if this matter is not emphasised," she said after launching the Perak State PROKiS Programme 2022 at Greentown Hall today.

PROKiS was also given to 200 young girls and women at 3 People's Housing Programme (PPR) localities around Ipoh City, namely Jalan Hospital Flats, Seri Kepayang Apartments and Pasir Putih Flats.

Also present were Perak Social Welfare Department Director Nor Tipah Majin, Perak National Population and Family Development Board Director Nurfarhana Lee Mohd Zulkiflee Lee, Perak Women Development Department Director Kavaramma Subramaniyam and Women and Community Development Secretariat Director Srihartini Mohamed Shamsudin.
