IPOH, 15 March 2022 - The National Consumer Day themed 'Consumer Digitisation' focused on empowering consumers to be more vigilant, especially in the protection for daily affairs involving the use of e-wallets and online purchases.

State Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs, National Integration and Civil Society Committee Chairman Dato' Abdul Yunus Jamahri said consumers now needed to equip themselves with digital knowledge and consumerism, particularly in terms of security and protection from fraud and hackers.

He said this after officiating the Perak National Consumer Day Carnival at Mydin hypermarket, Meru Raya here today.

“National Consumer Month is celebrated for a month from 1 – 31 March 2022, and the pinnacle of the celebration on 26 March 2022.

"Besides that, the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) Perak in collaboration with Mydin also organised the Malaysian Family Sales Programme from 15 – 20 March 2022," he added.

On a different matter, KPDNHEP Perak will intensify enforcement and monitoring of the prices of goods during the upcoming Ramadan month.

Dato' Abdul Yunus said more than 200 enforcement and price monitoring officers would be mobilised to popular locations, especially the Ramadan bazaars as a measure to control the increase in prices of goods.

"In this case, all parties need to play their role.

"From the aspect of traders, we advised them not to take advantage by raising prices and on the consumers’ part, we asked them to always be vigilant by ensuring that goods are sold at reasonable prices," he said.

Also present were KPDNHEP Perak Director Saifullizan Kamarul Zaman, KPDNHEP Perak Enforcement Section Head Mohd Sakhri Mohd Salleh and KPDNHEP Parit Buntar Branch Head Mat Jidin Hassan.
