IPOH, 6 April 2022 - A total of RM700,000 has been allocated by the state government to the Perak State Sports Council to implement the Sports Development Policy for Persons with Disabilities (OKU), thus becoming the first state to implement the policy.
Perak Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Saarani Mohamad said this policy involved six strategies, namely strengthening the administrative structure of Perak athletes and strengthening the development programme of athletes.
The third strategy is to strengthen the coaching and staffing system as well as implementation of the organisation and participation of championships.
Next, to provide sports amenities and facilities as well as improving strategic collaboration between agencies.
He hoped that this effort would provide more conducive facilities for the development of sports for the disabled.
“Some of our sports facilities are not OKU friendly, and if we want to build a separate facility, it will increase expenses. So, we use this approach, that is, in the same place we also provide OKU-friendly facilities,” he told reporters at the launch of the policy.
At the same time, the Belia Perak Bertadarus Programme was also launched.
The Menteri Besar said a total of 18 District Youth Councils throughout the state were involved in this programme.
"The highlight was the Khatam Al-Quran Ceremony with 180 tadarus participants at each level of the District Youth Council," he said when officiating the programme.
Also present were State Secretary Dato' Ahmad Suaidi Abdul Rahim, State Youth, Sports, Communication and Multimedia Committee Chairman Khairul Shahril Mohamed, Trong Assemblyman Jamilah Zakaria who is also the Youth Assembly Speaker, MSN Perak Deputy Director Mazlan Mohamad and Youth and Sports Department Director Mohd Soufi Mohd Ibrahim.
