IPOH, 13 December 2022 - The Perak State Government continued to focus on flood-related matters when it instructed all District and Land Offices to identify suitable sites for the relocation of flood victims in the state.
Perak Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Saarani Mohamad said the identified sites must take into account factors such as the safety and socioeconomy of the people to be relocated.
"Before identifying a site, several factors need to be taken into account, such as the relocation site must be a suitable site that is safer than the original area, and the second is that it is not far from where they earn their living.
"Because of the change in weather, floods occur in many places repeatedly until their homes are damaged, so the need for them to move is there, but it needs to be in very suitable conditions, especially in relation to where they earn their living," he said.
He said this in a press conference after the 'Selamat Pagi Cikgu Saarani' interview session on Perak FM at the Perak State Broadcasting Department here.
Dato' Seri Saarani added that so far only one site has been identified, i.e., Kampung Air Hitam in Hilir Perak district which will accommodate 28 flood victim families in Jalan Changkat Jong.
"An allocation of RM3.94 million was approved to the Perak Housing and Property Board (LPHP) in 2020, but was shelved due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
"The LPHP will apply for additional allocation as the project cost has gone up after the increase in the price of building materials," he said.
Earlier, Muallim became the latest district in the state to be hit by floods due to heavy rain yesterday evening when the Orang Asli District Health Transit Centre in the district was flooded.
