Federal And State Governments Must Coordinate In Managing Water Resources: 11 March 2023.

IPOH, 11 March 2023 - The synergy between the federal and state governments must be strengthened in the integrated management of water resources.

Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim said this when officiating the World Water Day Celebration 2023 at the Indera Mulia Stadium this afternoon.

"Water is very important in economic and social development as it affects a healthy environment, builds areas suitable for farming and supports natural ecosystems, such as forests or wetlands.

"In fact, it drives the industry, creates jobs and touches every aspect of development," he elaborated.

He also called on all stakeholders to focus on taking appropriate and continuous actions.

"We must give purposeful focus to the sustainable management of the country's water resources and support the national economic development agenda and wellbeing of the people," he said at the event.

He added that each party needs to act as an agent of change to benefit the public.

"There is no better job than bringing change, accelerating change, intensifying change.

"This is what I mean by the context of change - save the environment, greenery, our water supply and manage natural resources well so that it can benefit the public," he said.

Meanwhile, Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim also presented the Wadi Groundwater Resource Award to the Perak Water Board.

This award is a recognition to water operators that use groundwater as a source of clean water supply in a conjunctive manner.

Also present were State Infrastructure, Energy, Water and Public Transport Committee Chairman Dato' Seri Ir Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin, Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Deputy Minister Dato' Sri Huang Tiong Sii, Ministry of Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Secretary-General Dato' Rosli Isa, Ministry of Environment and Water (Water and Sewerage) Deputy Secretary-General Dr. Ching Thoo A/L Kim; Malaysian Irrigation and Drainage Department Director-General Dato' Ir. Dr. Dr. Nasir Md. Noh.
