GERIK, 3 AUGUST 2023 – HRH Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah graced the World Tiger Day 2023 Celebration organised by World Wide Fund for Nature Malaysia (WWF Malaysia) at the Belum Rainforest Resort here.

Accompanying the Sultan were HH Raja DiHilir Perak Raja Iskandar Dzurkarnain Sultan Idris Shah and WWF Malaysia President HH Tunku Besar Seri Menanti Tunku Ali Redhauddin ibni Tuanku Muhriz.

At the ceremony, His Royal Highness presented certificates of appreciation to 10 rangers and the Conservation Assured Tiger Standards (CA|TS) certificate of recognition to the Royal Belum State Park (RBSP).

The certificate of recognition was presented to Perak State Parks Corporation (PTNP) Director Mohamed Shah Redza Hussein.

Also present were Perak Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Saarani Mohamad, Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, State Secretary Dato' Ahmad Suaidi Abdul Rahim, WWF Malaysia Chairman Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar and Maybank Group and Maybank Foundation Chairman Tan Sri Dato' Sri Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa.

Nik Nazmi, in his speech, congratulated the Orang Asli Menraq Patrol Unit, Royal Belum State Park, for their historic success in winning the prestigious International Ranger Award from the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) World Commission on Protected Areas (WCPA) 2023 in conjunction with World Ranger Day.

He added that World Tiger Day is celebrated on 29 July every year to raise awareness of the world community on the importance of caring for, preserving and conserving the tiger species. In fact, this celebration is very meaningful to Malaysia which still has the endangered Malayan Tiger species.
