PARIT BUNTAR, 8 August 2023 - The government has agreed to improve the Padi Price Subsidy Scheme (SSHP) by increasing the subsidy rate from RM360 per metric tonne to RM500 per metric tonne starting tomorrow, 9 August 2023.

Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced the good news when officiating the Perak State Level Sentuhan Agro Madani Programme at Dewan Terbuka Kerian Permai.

"With this move, the padi farmers will receive at least RM1,700 per tonne, and this will directly increase their income as well as motivate them to increase production," he said.

At the same event, Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim also presented aid totalling RM21.8 million, benefiting 28,295 padi farmers and planters in Perak.

The aid provided was under Program Pemerkasaan Usahawan Peladang (Rise-UP), Program Pemilikan Jentera Kecil dan Sederhana Secara Geran Padanan, Program Agriprentice, Dana Tabung Hijrah MADANI Agrobank, Bantuan Khas Sumbangan Tunai kepada Pesawah dan Pusat Pengeluaran Benih Padi Sah.

Also present were Perak Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Saarani Mohamad, Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, Public Service Director-General Dato' Dr. Zulkapli Mohamed, State Rural Development, Plantation, Agriculture and Food Industry Committee chairman Dato' Mohd Zolkafly Harun, Deputy State Secretary (Development) Halizah Sipun and Deputy State Secretary (Management) Dato' Nor Sham Rahman.
