His Majesty The Yang Di-Pertuan Agong Visits NWRC.

SUNGKAI, 21 September 2023 – HM the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah visited the National Wildlife Rescue Centre (NWRC) here today.

His Majesty was accompanied by HRH Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah and HRH Regent of Pahang Tengku Mahkota Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah.

Also present were Perak Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Saarani Mohamad, Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, Peninsular Malaysia Wildlife Protection and National Parks (PERHILITAN) Department Director-General Dato' Abdul Kadir Abu Hashim, Orang Kaya Bendahara Seri Maharaja Jen. Dato' Seri DiRaja Tan Sri Dr. Mohd. Zahidi Zainuddin (Bersara), State Secretary Dato' Ahmad Suaidi Abdul Rahim and heads of state and federal departments.

During the visit, HM the Yang di-Pertuan Agong received a briefing from the Wildlife Protection and National Parks (PERHILITAN) Department officer regarding NWRC operations and witnessed the wildlife conservation initiatives at the centre including Malayan tigers, sun bears, tapirs and gaurs.

His Majesty also released a White-rumped Shama symbolising his official maiden visit.

The visit showed His Majesty's concern for the conservation of wildlife in this country and further strengthened efforts to conserve biodiversity, especially endangered species such as the Malayan Tiger.

The NWRC was established to meet the need to form a rescue centre which is a temporary settlement for seized wildlife under the International Trade in Endangered Species Act 2008 [Act 686] and fulfill obligations under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).

In addition, NWRC houses wildlife rescued from injury, smuggling, seizure, wildlife-human conflict and surrender in Peninsular Malaysia. Currently, NWRC also focuses on ex-situ Malayan Tiger conservation activities such as rescue operations, rehabilitation, husbandry, disease treatment and control, ex-situ research and breeding using the latest technology.
