STL organised by PERSEDAR is one of the platforms to produce young talented players and showcase their skills at the Malaysia Games (SUKMA) in Sarawak next year.

IPOH, 20 October 2023 - The Sepak Takraw League (STL) tournament organised by the Perak Sepaktakraw Association (PERSEDAR) is one of the platforms to produce young talented players and showcase their skills at the Malaysia Games (SUKMA) in Sarawak next year.

State Education, Higher Education, Youth and Sports Committee Chairman Khairudin Abu Hanipah said in his speech at the Sepak Takraw League Opening Ceremony at Dewan Gimnasium, Kompleks Belia dan Sukan here.

He said the tournament, open to all Perakians, will be participated by 26 players under the age of 20.

"This kind of tournament is important in supporting the development of a sport. Without tournaments, evaluation and exposure for players, it’s difficult to achieve," he said.

Meanwhile, he congratulated the National Sepak Takraw squad who won two silver medals in the Team Regu and Regu categories at the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.

"Well done and congratulations to Mohamad Azlan Alias ​​and Muhammad Zarif Marican Ibrahim Marican. In fact, they are also participating in the STL matches tonight," he said.

He added that the combination of experienced and young players is a uniqueness that has been set in the tournament conditions as one of the attractions when the youths can play together with their sports icons.

Before ending the ceremony, he officiated the handing over of flags to each group and took the opportunity to watch some matches.

Also present were PERSEDAR President Dato' Seri Abdul Puhat Mat Nayan and Perak Sports Council Director Mazlan Mohamad.

The tournament involves 12 districts in Perak with each district represented by 9 people, including managers and coaches. It starts from 20 October 2023 to 5 November 2023, comprising 66 matches.

The competing teams are Perak Tengah Katana, Muallim Arrow, Manjung Missile, Batang Padang Machete, Hulu Perak Crossbow, Kerian Axe, LMS Spear, Kuala Kangsar Cannon, Bagan Datuk Mace, Kinta Sword, Kampar Revolver and Hulu Perak Grenade.
