HRH the Sultan of Perak signing the visitors’ book.

TRONOH, 23 July 2024 – HRH Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah and HRH Raja Permaisuri of Perak Tuanku Zara Salim graced the Northern Region Malaysia Fire and Rescue Academy (ABPM) Opening Ceremony in Tronoh here.

Also gracing the event were HH Raja DiHilir Perak Raja Iskandar Dzurkarnain Sultan Idris Shah and HH Raja Puan Muda Perak Tunku Soraya Sultan Abdul Halim Shah.

Their Royal Highnesses' arrival at 10.30am was welcomed by Perak Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Saarani Mohamad and wife Datin Seri Aezer Zubin, and Housing and Local Government (KPKT) Minister Nga Kor Ming.

Also present were HH Raja Kecil Tengah Perak Raja Dato' Seri Iskandar Raja Ziran, Orang Kaya Bendahara Seri Maharaja Gen. Dato' Seri DiRaja Tan Sri (Dr.) Mohd. Zahidi Zainuddin (Rtd) and wife Toh Puan Datin Seri DiRaja Puan Sri Hajah Rasiah Md. Nor, State Assembly Speaker Dato' Mohammad Zahir Abdul Khalid and wife Datin Aznee Abu Samah, State Secretary Dato' Ahmad Suaidi Abdul Rahim and wife Datin Che Fauziah Ahmad and Housing and KPKT Secretary-General Datuk Wira M Noor Azman Taib.

State Legal Adviser Dato' Azmir Shah Zainal Abidin, State Financial Officer Dato' Mohd Zaki Mahyudin, Malaysia Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Director-General Dato' Nor Hisham Mohammad, State Exco Members, State Assemblymen, Territorial Chiefs and heads of state and federal departments also attended the event. 

His Royal Highness then officiated the ceremony and signed a plaque symbolising the opening of the Northern Region ABPM. 

This was followed with a demonstration of Road Traffic Accident (RTA) rescue operations, and water search and rescue operations by the Water Rescue Team (PPDA) and the Fire Rescue Special Air Services Unit (PASKUB). 

The demonstration of the firefighting operations showcased the capabilities of the special forces and the department's assets that are always ready to be used in certain rescue situations. 

After that, Sultan Nazrin was then taken to visit the exhibition booths set up before departing. 

The Northern Region ABPM was built on a 111-acre land complete with administrative blocks, lecture halls, parade ground, garages, dormitories, dining halls and prayer rooms, with a total construction cost of RM40 million.

The academy was completed in 2014 and fully operational with a staff of 50 officers led by a Commandant. 

It is equipped with facilities such as Compartment Fire Behaviour Training (CFBT) simulators, Breathing Apparatus Training Gallery (BATG), Railway and Gas Spill Simulators, as well as offering water rescue training, like boat handling courses and strengthening training for special Water Rescue Team by utilising existing mine facilities here.
