The centre’s redevelopment is in line with the government's aspiration of ensuring national food security via the sufficient, high-quality, and easily accessible production of certified padi seeds to farmers nationwide.

The PPN Perak Certified Padi Seed Production Centre involved a government allocation of RM12.72 million, with an annual production capacity of 5,000 metric tonnes of certified padi seeds, and is expected to be fully operational by May 2025.

This centre is one of four new centres developed by the Farmers’ Organisation Authority in an effort to strengthen the national certified padi seed ecosystem.

Overall, these four centres are expected to contribute 28% of the nation’s certified padi seed requirement, equivalent to 20,000 metric tonnes annually. With an annual production capacity of 1 million bags (20kg/bag), the four centres can support padi cultivation over an area of 142,857 hectares nationwide, and significantly reduce reliance on third-party suppliers.

Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, in his speech, expressed confidence that with the establishment of the Certified Padi Seed Production Centre in Parit Buntar, development in the district will accelerate.

The Certified Padi Seed Production Centre is not just for farmer institutions, but serves the entire community. He believes in the power of collaboration and the importance of forging strong ties with local, national, and global partners. This PPN Perak centre will stand firmly as a reference centre where high-quality certified padi seeds that meet the needs of the farming community are provided.
