Perak Launches ‘Tuisyen Cikgu Saarani' Programme Benefiting Over 200,000 Students: 3 February 2021

IPOH, 3 February 2021- The Perak State Government today launched the ‘Tuisyen Cikgu Saarani’ (TCS) Programme which will benefit almost 200,000 students throughout the state, especially those from the poor and low-income (B40) families.

Perak Menteri Besar Dato' Saarani Mohamad said the main aim of the programme was to help students sitting for the major examinations.

“This includes 40,642 candidates of the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) 2020 examination which has been postponed to this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Also benefiting directly from the TCS programme are 37,894 candidates of the major examinations in 2021, 30,320 Form Four students, 31,761 Form One students and 31,742 Year One pupils," he said.

He said this in a virtual press conference at the ‘Tuisyen Cikgu Saarani’ Programme and Handover of Mock Cheque Contribution for Special Food Aid Launch Ceremony at the Menteri Besar's Office, Bangunan Perak Darul Ridzuan.

Also present were State Education, Higher Education and Human Resource Committee Chairman Ahmad Saidi Mohamad Daud, State Education Director Dr. Mohd Suhaimi Mohamed Ali, Deputy State Education Director Rahimah Mohamad and Perak Malaysian School Principals Council President Suhaimi Harun.

He added that the State Education Department would provide teachers and educators to conduct tuition or additional classes for critical subjects such as Bahasa Malaysia, English, Mathematics and History.

"Apart from tuition and additional classes, this programme also includes other special initiatives and assistance, among them special food aid, intensive revision programme, exam answering technique seminars and videos of interactive teaching methods.

“For a start, the state government has allocated RM2.7 million for special food aid to 35,639 SPM candidates who attend daily school sessions and additional classes at school as final preparation for the examination.

"They will be given lunch daily for 15 days until they sit for the examination which is scheduled to start on 22 February," he said.

He stated that the allocation for the programme also included financial contributions from government-linked companies (GLCs), namely Menteri Besar Incorporated (MB Inc), Perak Water Board (LAP), Perak State Development Corporation (PKNP) and Perak State Agriculture Development Corporation (PPPNP).
