IPOH, 23 March 2021 - Perak became the first state to collaborate with Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad (SPNB) for the construction of People-Friendly Houses (RMR - Rumah Mesra Rakyat) under the RMR Perakku Prihatin programme with an allocation of RM10 million.

Perak Menteri Besar Dato' Saarani Mohamad said the initiative is an effort by the state government in helping the people, especially the B40 group to own comfortable homes at reasonable prices.

“The state government through Yayasan Perak has allocated RM10 million for the purpose of implementing the scheme and the opportunity will be given to the middle-income group who are not eligible for a free house or unable to take a loan.

"We came up with the idea where they can apply for interest-free loan through this scheme,” he told reporters after the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for RMR Perakku Prihatin construction between Yayasan Perak and Perak Malay Contractors Association of Malaysia (PKMM) at Hotel Casuarina here today.

Also present were Perak State Assembly Speaker Dato’ Mohammad Zahir Abdul Khalid, State Housing, Local Government and Tourism Committee Chairman Dato’ Nolee Ashilin Mohammed Radzi, Yayasan Perak Chairman Dato’ Tarmizi Idris, SPNB Chief Executive Officer Dato' Hasleen Isnin and Perak Malay Contractors Association of Malaysia Chairman Dato’ Wira Jamaluddin Abdul Rahim.

Dato' Saarani Mohamad added that under the scheme, the state government aims to build about 200 housing units this year.

“Through collaboration with SPNB, RMR Rumah Perakku Prihatin will be built throughout the state, and the people of Perak who are interested can submit their applications to Yayasan Perak.

“After the submission of applications, Yayasan Perak will then look at the applicants’ eligibility before being approved.

“I am very confident more houses can be built when borrowers start repaying their loans,” he said.

Meanwhile, Dato' Hasleen Isnin welcomed the initiative implemented by the Perak government in the effort to help the people own their own homes.

He said several states such as Johor, Pahang and Terengganu had expressed their intention to work with SPNB to build RMR in their respective states.
