IPOH, 3 August 2021: State Youth, Sports, Communication and Multimedia Committee Chairman Khairul Shahril Mohamed presented former Perak athletes welfare aid cheques today.

Two former Perak athletes received the contributions under the State Sports Council Programme.

The first recipient was Rajiah Baegum R Abdul Hamid, who represented Perak in women's hockey with almost 10 years of experience. She received a welfare aid cheque for RM3,000 to assist in her livelihood.

Rajiah Baegum, a patient with skin, joint and liver diseases, was a former Perak athlete who had brought glory to the state in various competitions, such as the Malaysia Women's Hockey Championships Interstate 1978, Penang 7-a-Side Festival 1979 (champion), Sri Lanka Friendly Match At Selangor Club Padang 1980 and Pesta Pulau Pinang 7-a-Side 1981 (runner-up).

The second recipient was Normadiah Abdullah, who represented the Perak Malaysian Government Servants’ Welfare and Sports Council (MAKSAK) Petanque team. She suffered from a stroke and had represented Malaysia in the Sea Games in 2005, 2007 and 2009.

She was also a coach and player for the Perak State Health Department Petanque Team.

Hopefully, the welfare aid assistance can help ease the burden of the two former athletes in facing the current COVID-19 pandemic.
