IPOH, 29 September 2022 – State Secretary Dato' Ahmad Suaidi Abdul Rahim officiated the Closing Ceremony of Disaster Management Briefing for Perak Penghulus at the Perak State Secretariat Multipurpose Hall here.

In his speech, as the Perak Disaster Management Committee Chairman, he urged the penghulus to make preparations in their respective areas.

"This planned programme is important because the penghulu is the leader of the frontliners, therefore they must be ready to move to face disasters affecting their areas.

"This is because being closest to the residents, they are able to recognise and identify houses with elderly or disabled people (OKU) so that aid can be sent quickly in the event of a disaster," he said.

The briefing was also to provide exposure and information to the penghulus regarding disaster management methods, the role of each agency and department in district disaster management.

Among the contents of the briefing was 'Forward Command and Incident Command Post' which was delivered by ASP Khairul Nizam Ismail, Operations Inspector from the Internal Security and Public Order Department, Perak Police Contingent Headquarters.

The session continued with a briefing by Muallim District Civil Defense Officer Kapt. (PA) Shahrizal Hussin on 'Role of the Community in Local Disaster Management'.

This was followed by a briefing on 'Flood Warning Sirens' by Perak Irrigation and Drainage Department Deputy Director Ir. Vasuke Palani Kumar.

Next was a briefing by Meteorological Department (MET) Director Ibrahim Johari on 'Weather Forecast and Warning Level'.

After that, Perak Social Welfare Department Principal Assistant Director Zaini Abd Kadir gave a briefing on 'The Community’s Role in Temporary Relief Centres’.

Concluding the session was a briefing to the penghulus by Perak Health Department Epidemiological Officer Dr. Noor Rizawati Mahpot on 'SOPs for Infectious Disease Control During Disasters'.
