IPOH, 5 October 2022 – State Secretary Dato' Ahmad Suaidi Abdul Rahim stressed that every resource, such as food and logistics, must be used to the optimum in facing the northeast monsoon which is expected to start early this November.

He said this while chairing the Disaster Preparedness Briefing at the Kinta District Social Welfare Office this afternoon.

"I am aware of the role of the Social Welfare Department (JKM) in managing flood disasters and I hope that this effort be continued when we face the northeast monsoon later," he said.

He added that all parties, especially in the disaster operations room of each district, must streamline their communication system so that every resource, such as food and logistics, can be used optimally and efficiently.

He also agreed with using Retort technology to provide food to flood victims during the first 24 hours at Temporary Relief Centres (PPS) to handle logistics problems in the delivery of food supplies.

Also present were JKM Perak Director Nor Tipah Majin and Kinta District Social Welfare Office Community Development Officer Mohd Shabbri Othman.

Next, he stopped by the Kinta District and Land Office to chair the Kinta District Disaster Management Committee (JPBD) Preparedness Level Briefing in facing the northeast monsoon.

According to him, these preparations must be made before, during and after the flood.

"In Perak, there are rivers that we need to focus on, for example, Sungai Pinji, Sungai Pari and Sungai Klebang. Work on deepening or widening the rivers needs to be done immediately so that when it rains heavily, the rivers will not overflow," he explained.

Also present were Kinta District Officer Meor Hezbullah Meor Abdul Malik, Ipoh District Deputy Police Chief Superintendent Lee Swee Sake, Kinta District Health Officer Dr. Asmah Zainal Abidin and Penghulu Mukim Kinta Ipoh Dr. Mohd Sani Kamaruddin.
