IPOH, 14 November 2023 - The Perak State Government is concerned for the fate of 77 families of storm victims in Taman Meru 2C and six families affected by floods in the Kampung Sri Kinta area here.

Perak Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Saarani Mohamad said the state government has channeled cash aid of RM600 and also food boxes to ease the burden of the families involved.

"Besides the state government aid of RM300 and my personal contribution of RM300, efforts are also being made to coordinate other assistance, including RM1,000 from the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) and Tabung Musa'adah Madani Jakim.

"I was informed that the Tambun Parliamentary Office and the Hulu Kinta State Assemblyman’s Office have also taken early steps by directly replacing the roofs with minimal damage, in addition to distributing canvases to temporarily cover the damaged roofs," he said.

He said this after presenting cash aid and food boxes to six families affected by flash floods in the Temporary Relief Centre (PPS) at Dewan Orang Ramai Kampung Sri Kinta here.

Also present were State Assembly Deputy Speaker Jenny Choi Tsi Jen, State Women, Family, Social Welfare and Entrepreneur Development Committee Chairman Dato' Salbiah Mohamed, Ipoh Mayor Dato' Rumaizi Baharin, Kinta District Officer Meor Hezbullah Meor Abd Malek, Ipoh District Police Chief ACP Yahya Hassan and representatives of the related departments and agencies.

Dato’ Seri Saarani added that as a follow-up, a meeting involving various state and federal agencies was held to coordinate aid and post-disaster work.

"Besides the cash aid by the state and federal governments, including agencies and non-governmental organisations, other actions being implemented are the cleaning of areas or houses affected by storms or floods, and the distribution of district disaster relief forms to update the data of storm victims.

"The state government's focus now is to repair badly damaged houses, such as blown-off roofs, while the other evaluation works are being carried out by the Kinta District Office Development Division," he said.

At the same time, the continuous heavy rain for two hours yesterday afternoon resulted in several areas in Ipoh City being hit by storms and flash floods.

This resulted in more than 40 houses in Taman Meru 2C experiencing damaged roofs and two families had to be moved to PPS Dewan Orang Ramai Taman Meru here. While in Kampung Seri Kinta, six families were relocated to PPS Dewan Orang Ramai Kampung Sri Kinta.
