Floods: State Government Takes Precautionary Measures.
Also present were Dato' Salbiah Mohamed and Mohd Sabli Bakri.
BAGAN SERAI, 16 November 2023 - The Perak State Government is taking precautionary measures even though the overall flood situation is improving, but the weather conditions are still unpredictable.
Perak Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Saarani Mohamad said this when conducting a survey of flood victims placed at the Temporary Relief Centre (PPS) in Sekolah Kebangsaan Alor Pongsu here.
"The flood situation in Perak involving three districts, namely Kerian, Hilir Perak and Kinta, is reported to be improving as two of the six PPS have been closed since yesterday.
"The two PPS closed are Dewan Serbaguna Chikus (Hilir Perak) and Dewan Orang Ramai, Kampung Sri Kinta (Kinta).
"The other four still open are at Sekolah Kebangsaan Changkat Lobak and Sekolah Kebangsaan Alor Pongsu in the Bagan Serai area, and Dewan Serbaguna Padang Tembak (Hilir Perak) and Dewan Orang Ramai, Majlis Bandaraya Ipoh, Meru Park (Kinta).
"Although the overall flood situation has improved, I call on all departments and agencies involved to take precautionary measures as the weather conditions are still unpredictable," he said.
He added that as of today, a total of 178 victims from 52 families are still housed in the PPS.
"Today I inspected PPS SK Alor Pongsu which has been open since 30 October. It houses 57 victims from 19 families from four villages, namely Kampung Selekoh, Kampung Beriah, Kampung Parit Air Hitam Dua and Kampung Parit Ali Kalang.
"During my visit, the flood scenario in Kerian district was the same as that in Hilir Perak district, i.e., 'stagnant floodwaters'. This causes the water to take a long time to recede," he said.
Also present were State Women, Family, Social Welfare and Entrepreneur Development Committee Chairman Dato' Salbiah Mohamed and Kerian District Officer Mohd Sabli Bakri.
Meanwhile, the Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) is taking immediate action by using the water pump method to solve the problem and then the cleaning work can be carried out.
The government has channelled a contribution of RM600, including initial aid to flood victims to ease their burden.
