The Perak Menteri Besar and Minister witnessing the exchange of MOU between LPHP and JPN.

IPOH, 10 July 2024 – Perak Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Saarani Mohamad and Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming witnessed the exchange of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the Perak Housing and Property Board (LPHP) and National Housing Department (JPN), which will open a new chapter in the restoring of problematic housing projects.

According to him, the collaborative project is the first of its kind in Malaysia, involving direct collaboration between the state and federal governments in solving the issue of sick and abandoned housing projects.

"This historic collaboration also marks a turning point in our approach to the housing problems that has burdened the people for a long time.

"This strategic cooperation focuses on three main aspects, i.e., close monitoring of problematic housing development in Perak, collection of data and comprehensive technical information, and systematic restoration of abandoned projects," he said.

He said this in a press conference after the MOU Exchange Ceremony Between LPHP and JPN at the Menteri Besar's Office in Bangunan Perak Darul Ridzuan here.

Also present were State Legal Adviser Dato' Azmir Shah Zainal Abidin, State Financial Officer Dato' Mohd Zaki Mahyudin, State Housing and Local Government Committee Chairman Sandrea Ng Shy Ching, JPN Chief Executive Officer Dato' Jayaseelan A/L K. Navaratnam, Ipoh Mayor Dato' Rumaizi Baharin, LPHP Chief Executive Officer Akmal Dahalan and heads of state and federal departments.

Dato' Seri Saarani said the state government is committed in ensuring that the MOU is not just an exchange of documents but an action plan that will be implemented with full dedication.

"So far five abandoned projects have been identified in Perak – D'Aman Residensi Meru Raya in Ipoh, Taman Tapah Permai in Tapah, Taman Cempaka II in Manjung, Taman Seri Emas in Kampar, and Taman Limau Mas in Beruas.

"Also, the latest data from JPN showed that there were 58 housing projects involving 4,007 units that were categorised as sick projects in Perak as of 31 May 2024, and this underscore the importance of the collaboration in addressing issues that burden the people," he added.
