The Perak Menteri Besar presenting food aid boxes to the inland fishermen’s representatives.

LENGGONG, 31 July 2021: The Perak State Government through the Perak Fisheries Department will distribute food aid boxes to 700 inland fishermen in all the state’s districts.

Perak Menteri Besar Dato' Saarani Mohamad said the state government is in the efforts to ease the burden of the group affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The recipients are inland fisher men who are listed as recipients of cost of living allowance and depend entirely on daily catches to support their families.

"This aid is also targeted at the inland fishermen’s families affected by the Movement Control Order (MCO) which restricts their activities to earn a living by fishing in rivers and lakes, apart from not being able to carry out part-time work in their villages,” he said.

He said this after the Perak Inland Fishermen Food Aid Box Handover Programme 2021 to the inland fishermen’s representatives at Pusat Pekasam Negara, Lenggong here.

Dato' Saarani added that the food aid boxes will be entirely distributed to inland fishermen by the relevant parties.

“The Perak Fisheries Department with the assistance of district offices and local community leaders will distribute the food aid boxes to eligible recipients.

"We will continue to work with various parties, both government and private departments as well as NGOs to jointly help ease the burden of those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic," he said.

At the same time, the state government has spent almost RM70 million on various initiatives and aid from February to July this year.

It was divided into two expenditures, i.e. in the form of initiatives and aid such as food aid boxes for EMCO areas in addition to the frontliners worth RM46.1 million and the Economic Stimulus Package totalling RM21.9 million.
