MANJUNG, 26 September 2021 - A total of 88 houses were damaged by the storm in Manjung district last Wednesday.

The disaster that occurred around 6 pm damaged several mosques, suraus, community halls, tents and electric poles.

Perak Menteri Besar Dato' Saarani Mohamad said repair works were being carried out and the government had approved RM100,000 for the repairs.

“We arrived today to survey the areas affected by the storm that occurred on 22 September 2021. We received a report from Manjung District Officer Shamsul Ridzuan Idris that 88 houses were affected by the disaster. Many of the residents' houses were damaged with their roofs blown away by the wind or destroyed by fallen trees.

“Some damages were valued at RM10,000 but some were only RM300. This does not include the assistance or repair expenses through the Capacity Building Foundation. In fact, we will also provide cash aid RM200 to all the victims here,” he said when delivering a briefing and contribution at the Phase 3A Community Hall, Seri Manjung.

Meanwhile, Zainuddin Ismail, 62, sitting alone in his family's home, said this was the worst storm he had ever experienced since living in the house about 45 years ago.

"I was cooking rice in the kitchen. Suddenly, I heard a very loud noise. I went outside the house to see what was happening, I saw the Pinang tree in the backyard had broken. Later, the weather was very cloudy and the wind was blowing hard.

Within seconds, another tree had broken and crushed the house kitchen. The hawker in front of my house was also affected when his shop tent was blown away by the storm. Fortunately, there were residents who managed to help him,” explained Zainuddin, who lives in Kampung Pasir Panjang Laut.

Meanwhile, in Kampung Padang Tembak, Noraini Che Mey, 58, said at the time of the incident she had just returned from work.

"As soon as I arrived home, I heard my daughter screaming for her father. In a moment of anxiety, I told my son to recite the azan and not stop praying to Allah S.W.T. The roof at the back of my house was blown away by the storm," she said anxiously.

She was also very grateful for the help given and the quick action taken by the government to repair her house.

Also present were State Secretary Dato' Ahmad Suaidi Abdul Rahim, Lumut MP Datuk Wira Dr. Mohd Hatta Md Ramli and ADUN Pasir Panjang Yahaya Mat Nor.
