IPOH, 3 September 2024 – The tourism sector development project under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) implemented by the Northern Corridor Implementation Authority (NCIA) in Perak is on track to drive a sustainable tourism ecosystem by 2025.

A total of RM61.2 million has been allocated to NCIA to implement four major projects in Perak's tourism sector and two of those projects have been fully completed.

The implementation of the projects will have a positive impact to boost the state's tourism industry as well as creating various new economic opportunities for the local community.

Perak Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Saarani Mohamad said the completed projects were the redevelopment of the Lata Kinjang Eco-Forest Park tourism centre and the Ipoh Heritage Tourism infrastructure project, which have supported the aspirations of Visit Perak Year 2024.

"Two other strategic development projects currently in the implementation phase are the Tourism Trail Development in Pengkalan Hulu, and the Archaeological Tourism Development in the Lenggong Valley which is one of the United Nations World Heritage Sites.

"These two new projects will catalyse the attractiveness and complement the tourism package in Perak on the world map to attract tourists from home and abroad in line with one of the flagship programmes, i.e., the Experience Economy under Perak Sejahtera 2030," he said.

He said this after officiating the Perak Tourism Ecosystem Development Appreciation Ceremony at the State Operations Room in Bangunan Perak Darul Ridzuan here.

Also present were State Secretary Dato' Ahmad Suaidi Abdul Rahim, NCIA Chief Executive Mohamad Haris Kader Sultan and NCIA Chief Operating Officer Hasri A. Hassan.

Meanwhile, touching on the new potential for the economic sector in Perak, Mohamad Haris said NCIA is currently conducting a feasibility study on the NCER Agro-Food Hub in Perak which is driven by public-private investment collaboration.

"This project will make Perak a conducive, innovative, viable and sustainable agro-food hub that supports the national food security agenda, besides creating new job opportunities, in line with the NCER Strategic Development Plan.

"The NCER Agro-Food Hub has the potential to contribute as much as RM500 million to Perak's GDP and increase the income of local farmers by up to 25% as a result of the adaptation of modern agricultural technology," he said.
